I’ve had this orchid since last march. After it bloomed I trimmed down the stem. I noticed what I thought was a Kiki about a month ago. Today I saw this flower. Is this weird? Is it a true Kiki? None of my other “Kiki’s have any roots just like this one. Can anyone tell me what is going on?? Thanks!!
That is not a keiki, just more flower buds. Trimming the flower spike has successfully convinced it to branch and rebloom on the same spikes

1 likeThis particular growth is interesting because it has structures of a keiki, the leaf growth on a flower spike. But these usually grow roots before they produce a flower. A keiki WILL eventually produce roots. Could just be an anomaly, could be confused genetics in an over blended hybridization process. Keep us posted, I’ll be curious to see what happens with this.
0 likes I’m not sure, I have other orchids doing the same thing. See pictures. I cut one off another orchard and placed it on moss to see what happens.
I probably would have waited for it to grow roots before I removed it from the mother plant. Without them, it has no way to obtain water and nutrients and may slowly wither away before it can grow roots to sustain itself. But who knows- let us know if there’s an update.
0 likes These are not Kiki’s. They are large flowers. From stem. None have grown roots. Been there awhile before they bloomed.
