Dendrobium nobile “Spring Snow” Surprisingly big flowers with a slight floral and Lemon Pledge scent. And a bit of a surprise. I thought I had screwed up the rest period again. Hooray for hybrids!

Oh I am gonna need to pick your brain on this specific orchid as the one I got was blooming in February. Is it all messed up for the whole year? are you keeping yours outside? Oh wise orchid wizard bless me with your knowledge! 😂

Oh you flatterer! I think you are fine, but honestly these are still a puzzle for me. The key is the rest period. If you can provide the 10 degree drop and dry period, and enough light, you should be fine. A good sign of dormancy is the ends of the new canes will develop terminal leaves. Basically if you see a little bump on the end of the cane, it’s done growing. This starts to happen November-ish. You want to begin withholding water and fertilizer when active growth stops. If canes wrinkle significantly, you can give it a tiny drink. This can s when the temperature drop needs to happen to initiate blooming. I have yet to figure out how to do that in a home setting. Honestly, I feel like theses blooms are due to a hybrid that doesn’t need the temperature drop. I was totally expecting it to keiki instead of bloom. And I wouldn’t worry too much about flowering timing. So many plants are grown in artificial conditions to stimulate flowering during atypical times. I find my plants sort themselves out over the course of the first year or so.

I’ve literally just posted a cry for help for my mother in laws dendrobium… it badly needs repotting and I’m making sure I don’t kill it as it’s gorgeous… to much pressure lol. I only have phalaenopsis orchids really. Any tips would be happily received 😍
