Hi there hoping I can get some help with an Orchid I have it went a long time with out water now I’m trying to bring it back to life, I did a 15 min soak yesterday but top now still seems dry some water left below. Any suggestions on what to do?
I know most people hate to hear it, since we love orchids for their flowers, but if you are serious about giving this plant its best chance at survival- the very first thing I’d do is cut the flower spikes. With it in such a dehydrated state, they may not bloom anyway- and they sap so much water and energy from the plant that it could be putting into recovery. Either way, your soak yesterday should start to show some results in perking up the leaves in a day or two. DON’T keep the media wet- I know it feels right, giving more water when the plant looks dehydrated. But these are epiphytic plants. Their roots need air around them as much as they need water. WAIT until the roots are all that pretty silver color- no more bright green, and THEN water again. Otherwise you risk rotting the good roots you have in the pot and with it already so set back, the chance of recovery will drop severely. Is this potted in an interior clear plastic insert that you can remove to view the roots in the pot? If so, check on them.

Bottom water for longer as soon as roots turn whitish or chalky green. I soak for hours,and some people even do overnight. Be sure to drain her well. Mine is flourishing now. Just watch the roots and remember she's a rainforest plant.
