Ok last post here for a while (I feel like I’m jamming everyone’s feeds up a bit). Around 2-3 months ago, I repotted this orchid, I didn’t know much and wasn’t able to re pot it properly after realizing it had root rot. It’s planted way to big now so I want to invest in nice repot me pots and potting mix. I’m going to get the Phalaenopsis AAA gold imperial orchid potting mix. What I need help with is the slotted pot size. I’m bad with spacial sizing stuff, I’m think 4 inches or 3 . Please help me get this right! Thanks so much!

    1) don’t worry about posting too much- we are all orchid lovers here and are happy to help if we can, see everyone else’s cool plants, and share our learning experiences. 2) I see you have a flower spike coming in! Unless you know there are issues going on in the medium that might be detrimental to the health of the plant, you might want to wait to repot until after the plant finishes flowering. 3) I know you have a smallish amount of roots rn, but this looks to be a big orchid. If it starts to grow for you as it should, it could fill up a pot with roots in the next year or two. I’d probably go with a 4 inch.

I am inclined to leave it in as is. It might not be the ideal size but I agree with Jen that I could fill up the pot. Repotting is stressful and unless you see signs of decline, run with what you have. If you have the budget, get a range of pot sizes to give you some options when it’s time to repot. Personally, I like to size so that the roots just fit inside the pot. My only concern is media density - if this mix has any fines in it, it will make moisture management challenging. You might consider the chopstick trick to help you see when you need to water.
