Friends, which pot is better for a paphiopedilum orchid? The clear one or the green one? If these are not good, what should I buy?

    I’ve only ever used the green type with the slits. (Mine are clear though.) I don’t KNOW that one is necessarily better than the other, but with any terrestrial you’ll want to retain a bit more moisture. More important will be whether the teeny bark pieces fall through those slightly larger drainage holes in the bottom of your clear pot. I’d go with the green.

    Thank you. I didn’t even consider if the tiny bark mix I bought would fall through the holes in the clear pot! lol. The green pots were available in other colors, but for some reason the green ones were on sale 🙂

      It’s probably the perfect choice to use them for terrestrials- the green might make it difficult to check the roots on other orchids. We always talk about how you shouldn’t water your Phalaenopsis roots until they go from that bright green color to a silvery gray. That might be difficult to determine with the green pot.

    That’s a really good point about the phalaenopsis root color and the colored pots. Definitely need to keep that in mind when shopping for pots. The paphiopedilum that I need to repot has brown fuzzy roots that I don’t think change color. So maybe the green pot will be Ok? I wanted a somewhat see through pot, compared to the black nursery pot it came in, so I could see if there was moisture in the pot. It might help me figure out when it’s time to water.
