I think I’ve made a mistake I cut the spikes all the way to the base on this orchid. I’m just now finding out it’s only some orchids you can do this with. I did it while it was green because it had root rot and I wanted it to focus on the roots and leaves. Will my orchid ever regrow flowers?
If this is a moth orchid it should grow a new flower spike. Maybe not till next year, depending on the root recovery situation. I have a moth orchid and once she stops flowering the spike slowly dies (and I cut it back at the base) and a new one is grown when she gets ready to flower again. Also, mine had root rot as well and made a great come back! I’m sure yours will be back in flowering shape in no time 🌺 🌱
1 j'aimeI ALWAYS cut down to the base on this type of orchid- exactly for the reason you mentioned- overall health of the plant- it will put more energy into root and leaf growth, making it stronger in the long term to support larger and more numerous flowers.
