    I was going to make a joke saying ‘Welcome Plantlife, to Orchids Anonymous’ as we are all a little obsessed and addicted to them here. But that would infer we were somehow trying to give them up. NOT the case. 🙂

      I’m already plotting what the next one with be, what do you suggest for someone with some plant experience but not much orchid knowledge. The one I have now was just a grocery store one so probably just a moth orchid (correct me if I’m wrong)

      You’re correct. That’s the classic case, most of us start with a grocery store phalaenopsis and that’s how they hook ya. These are incredibly easy to grow and so very beautiful, being endlessly hybridized for stunning displays and hardiness. Depending on where you live, you may find other types in stores like Trader Joe’s, Lowe’s Improvement, Costco etc. But getting some experience with phals is a great baseline for other types you might want to try later. I’m super lucky to live in Chicago, not far from one of the most amazing orchid nurseries in the country, Hausermann’s. When you start to getting a little more ambitious about different types you might want to try growing, places like these have SUCH an incredible selection. But I highly recommend doing some research on care before falling in love with a certain type. For example, people living in Florida can grow (typically bare-rooted) vandas on their patios no problem, the humidity and ability to just hose the roots down daily making it manageable. I LOOOOOOVE vandas, but there’s no way, in my environment, that I could keep up with the watering they’d need.

      I do plan to do research, I’m also planning on getting a small indoor greenhouse soon so maybe I’ll just wait and see what would do well in there Thank you!

      There’s so many orchid types to choose from! Last July, I branched out and bought a Lady Slipper Orchid from a local orchid nursery. It’s very different from my moth orchid in that it prefers lower light (I give it 200 FC from a grow light) and they want their roots constantly wet, so I just water it thoroughly every time Planta tells me to without even having to check on how dry the roots are first. It also has the prettiest variegated leaves and such a cool flower! They helped me choose the right orchid based on my growing conditions and care style. I highly recommend finding a local orchid society or shop to help find the right fit for you to try if you want a different type!
