Was going to do some needed root clean up and noticed this growing off of one end of a root and two other roots are starting to bud small white dots as well. Does anyone know what this is? I can’t tell if it’s new growth or some time of fungus I should be concerned about. Thank you in advance!!
It looks like it might be a water logged root. If not it I’d say fungal growth. You should definitely remove all those dead brown roots in the center and only keep plump healthy green ones. Orchids are pretty resilient if you catch problems early and since you still have some green ones I think you caught it in time. Just give it some time to try out cause this guy looks a bit water stressed. Good luck!

1 mi piace Yes! Sanitize a pair of clippers and then remove whatever that growth is and all the roots that are either mushy or feel like empty paper. Then let it dry out for a day or two before potting it back up. Make sure it is in a clear orchid pot you can watch the roots on. If it were mine I might rehab it out of a pot altogether. Just put some leca in a the bottom in a clear glass container and set the orchid on top of the leca. Put water in the leca but stop about 1/2 inch from the top so the roots don’t sit in water. That will raise the humidity around the plant. Then mist the roots every day. That should help them dry out and push new healthy growth. When you get an 2-3 inches of roots you can pot them up in orchid bark but just don’t let them sit in this grocery store pots that keep air from their roots.

1 mi piace This is an example of what I’m talking about…except with yours I wouldn’t use the plastic pot or bark yet. Just set it on the leca so you can watch the roots carefully. Mist them daily. But don’t let the roots say in standing water in the leca (it’s only for ambient humidity)
