Once your flowers are done blooming, it’s a perfect time to repot. For best long-term health of your orchid and ease of care for first time orchid growers it’s a good idea to get orchid specific plastic pots with lots of holes in them. You can keep an eye on the roots with the clear plastic, and the holes provide plenty of ventilation for your epiphytic orchid. You do NOT want to put them in soil. They need a chunky orchid bark, perhaps a bark and sphagnum mix if yours have been kept very very moist. The medium needs to dry out between waterings.
1 LikeBoth of them were not done blooming; the water got to them first. I have orchid bark soil mix That’s what they’re in. So I’ll just need to get new pots and a probably re soil them. Correct?
0 LikesWhat do you mean the water got to them? When was the last time they were repotted? A decent orchid bark is usually good for 2-3 years without having to give them fresh media. Unless there is mold or a lot of decaying roots in your pot, the old media is probably fine. But yes, if you are looking for better drainage so your media dries quicker, orchid pots with lots of holes or slits in the sides are very helpful.
