Hi, can anyone help me please? I have a new Miltoniopsis Orchid that was bought for me as a gift. Unfortunately, they decided to repot it a few days before giving it to me into a standard houseplant compost. 🙈 I quickly repotted her into orchid bark with added seramis as that's all I had to hand but she's not happy. I was thinking of repotting again, would a mesh pot be OK with 50% pine bark which has added Seramis and 50% Sphagnum Moss? I was thinking the bark and mesh pot will provide aeration and and moss will help retain moisture as I believe these aren't like Phals, they don't like to dry out. What are your thoughts please? She has 3 flower buds and 2 flowers that were limp. Please help me save her 🙏

    For lighting, these like a bit more shade than average for orchids (their thin leaves are prone to sunburn.) They like warm temperatures (minimum 60°F, no more than 90°F). They like a mix of about 70% bark, tree fern fiber, or seedling bark, and 30% sphagnum. They like frequent watering (in the wild, it'd be almost daily) and about 70% humidity (err on the side of less; it's always easier to fix dehydration than rot.) If it's dehydrated, the leaves will grow in accordion-like crinkly shapes. Let the roots approach dryness between watering but not dry out completely. For some reason they like a shallow tray style pot rather than deep styles. They also do well when mounted (if you do that, mount it low on a vertical surface because it'll grow in a climbing direction)

    Also the repotting may make the bloom weaker or drop the flowers entirely; don't worry if that happens, it's dissapointing but you can always get another bloom later.

    Thank you so much for your reply, Waspinator! You've given me a lot of really useful information there. I ended up repotting in around 60% bark and 40% sphagnum moss, hopefully it'll be OK. I did end up also putting her in a mesh pot, I had no idea about them preferring shallow pots, I guess their roots like to grow outwards and not down? Which I suppose would explain the frequent watering as they'd dry out quicker in a shallow pot. The leaves look OK, no accordion looking leaves, they're all pretty straight but quite pale looking, I'm not sure if that's normal or not. That's also good to know about the light preference, I was trying to give her plenty of light so I'll rethink that and maybe hide her a bit in some shadows of other plants. I'll see how she gets on.
