Help! Is this moth orchid worth saving or should I just try with a new one? I’ve had this moth orchid for almost a year and while it stopped blooming, it stayed healthy and pretty for months. Up until recently when the leaves started to feel leathery, shriveled. I read that I should check for the roots, and I saw that almost all the roots tangled in the bottom were brown, mushy or wood-like. So I trimmed them and now I’m left with this, just a few new green-silvery roots. I thought of soaking it in water and find out what I can do. Can I save it and repot? Besides getting new orchid bark is there anything else I need to do? Appreciate any help or tips from you guys. 🪴🙏

Hi. I saved a few orchid from this condition. It is possible. I don’t suggest you to keep it like this in water. The stem should not touch the water. You can leave the water in the glass for humidity but don’t let orchid touch it. Dip it for a few minutes once in couple days. Until new roots will start to grow. When you will have sufficient roots you can plant it. It will also help to put a dome over it for humidity since the leaves look dehydrated and no roots to fix it. So at least keep whatever still there in the leaves until new roots appear.

It will take time for new roots to come. It also needs light but not direct sunlight. So be patient and just try to keep it hydrated but occasionally dipping it in water and keeping humidity.

Good luck ❤️ if no viruses or diseases it will eventually grow roots 👍

Agree with the advice above to take it out of water. I had just leaves for a year+ on one of mine and look at it now!
