    These are terrestrial orchids, so care is pretty similar to other tropical plants and less like phalenopsis orchids. Jewel orchids have a shallow root system and mainly spread sideways as they grow. Young ones like sphagnum, but they can move to potting soil as they mature. When repotting, make sure the part of the root that was under soil is still fully buried in its new pot. Jewel orchids are used to being in the understory of dense forests, so they're not picky on light levels
