Hey orchid friends! Can someone tell me what is wrong with my roots? Alegría (her name) was purchased from the store about three weeks ago and I’ve watered it around five times. She seems healthy other than her roots.

Also, the roots on the inside of the pot of the plant look pretty normal, a good vibrant green

MeasomerPiSome of the roots on top look a little rough but that is pretty typical for newly acquired plants. Just make sure you let it dry out between waterings. Three weeks and five waterings seems a little too often (but I’m basing that on my growing conditions). Look for the roots to turn silvery white (or whitish yellow if inside the pot) before watering again.

Looks like possibly an ice cube victim. Other than the scars, it looks healthy. Once the flowers are done definitely repot, check the roots for any issues, and give it fresh bark/sphagnum

I’d agree- the top roots look like they have either been damaged by cold. Or, if you have very hard water, or if you are using too much fertilizer, it can create those types of ‘burned’ patches.

I would pull it out of the pot and cut off the wet and dried up roots. Remember to keep the good roots. Replace the potting mix with new orchid mix. I use a combination of bark chips, perlite, a tiny bit of sphagnum moss, and leca balls (clay pebbles). This combo has made a big difference with mine.
