Hi there! My mom just gifted me an orchid that my grandma could no longer take care of. I’m sure it just needs lots of love and attention but I was wondering if there might be anything else I’m missing. Also should I cut off the dead stems? Any tips would be appreciated as this is my first ever orchid!

Yes, cut the spikes off at the base. Other than that your plant looks great! Orchids don’t constantly bloom, so don’t be alarmed if it doesn’t put out a new spike any time soon.

Took mine a year to put out a new spike. Had to prune some dying leaves and dead roots before he perked up again. If the roots are silvery or shriveled looking give it a tablespoon or two of water or a few ice cubes

Please don’t give your orchid ice to water it. These are tropical plants that would never see ice or that cold of temps in nature. Your orchid would be fine for a while, but long term, it can damage the roots. If that amount of water is working well for your plant and your environment, by all means, give them that amount- but room temp.
