Would it be too much disruption on my moth orchid to gently life her outta her pot (orchid bark & spag) to see how she’s doing down below? She put out a new leaf over a month ago and I haven’t seen anything new recently so I’m wondering if roots are growing below the medium I can’t see. Would this be too detrimental y’all think? She’s not been moved and previously has been pretty happy in this location growing new roots and leaves. I think she tried to do a new flower stem in late winter but abandoned it so it’s just a nub.

Ok sweet thanks. I’ll give her a peep when she’s dried out a bit, just watered her today.

I think that’s fine as long as you don’t do it too often That’s why a lot of people grow in clear pots, so you can check on the roots without disturbing the plant

Thanks! Def gonna get clear pots for the next repot, and with slots! I only had some green nursery pots available and didn’t want to wait several weeks for proper clear slotted ones to arrive.

Maybe time the popping with the arrival of the clear pots. Two birds one stone

I could do that… she was repotted in Jan would that be too soon to repot again? Or I guess switch pots, I could get the same size they’re currently in

If you are taking it out to check the roots, you are essentially unpotting it the same as if you were repotting it. As long as you don’t find any pests, lots of mushy dead roots, or mold of any kind, you can reuse the same media. I think if you’re determined to pull it out anyway, it makes sense to go ahead and put it in a clear plastic pot at the same time. Then you can check on the roots every day if you want. 🙂
