Does anyone know what this is on the leaf... My orchid seems super healthy apart from this.. the white residue is fungal treatment btw I applied about a week ago. It seems to have made minimal difference. I really don't want to lose her 😥

How long has this been going on? Did the large spot start out as multiple smaller ones that grew together? Do the black areas weep? Is there a smell? Has the plant gotten any direct sunlight?

Sorry I am new to this app. I should've replied rather than new comment so hopefully you get notification 🙂 a few weeks, no I think it started as a black mark which spread, no I've never seen any fluid, no smell, yes she gets some direct sunlight and I forgot to mention, the texture of the leaf with lots of small dark marks dotted about is rough and bumpy

So I t gets direct light only during the morning. That might be okay but I would move it so that it gets bright indirect only. I think you’re probably right about a fungal infection. I have used Physan 20 in the past with success. The important thing is to follow the manufacturer’s instructions of whatever you use and watch how the plant responds. Many chemicals have not been tested for use on orchids. If the bumpy area is localized to the discolored areas, I think the bumps are caused by dead cells. But I would check your plant for pests, specifically spider mites. I typically don’t cut away tissue unless the infection is out of control. My reasoning is I don’t want to open another vector for infection and there are areas still photosynthesizing. 🤞Jen weighs in. She is particularly good as analyzing problems.

I am leaning toward multiple problems here- the large mark looks like a burn, but they usually dry out, this one, due to the ring around the mark looks like an ongoing infection. The other leaf has a separate issue, that one looks more like a type of pest damage, is it spreading or growing at all? The textured area or the dark spots? Hard to tell if the spots are dry or kind of moist and shiny. I agree with Pi’s advice above. I don’t usually cut a leaf unless an infection is spreading and the whole plant is in jeopardy.

Check the roots. If there are any rotten ones remove them and pot back up with orchid mixture and be sure you are letting all excess water to drain off after watering it.

If I'm honest, a few weeks 😬 just one small one I believe, that got bigger and spread... No I haven't noticed any fluid on the black areas. There's no smel at all no.. yes she gets some direct sunlight... she's potted in a orchid nursery pot in bark (miracle grow orchid bark) and I water sparingly, I judge it by if there's still condensation or moisture in her clear pot and the plumpness of the roots.

Also, I forgot to mention, the leaf with the smaller dark spots, feels coarse and bumpy

Do you use fertilizer? Almost looks like it could be chemical burned from too concentrated fertilizer. This doesn’t look like an overwatering situation to me. Also could use a good cleaning, just wiping the leaves well (front and back) to better absorb the sunlight. You could chop that leaf off too just to encourage new growth!

Yeah I use a standard liquid fertiliser.. every few months maybe.. thanks Susan. I will do this cleaning and remove the two affected leaves 🙂
