Non Orchid Mommy here. This was gifted to me in June. If there isn't a bloom stalk by now, does that mean it is too late for this season?

    It can mean that, but not necessarily. It may just be adjusting to its new environment, and pausing in regular production of a flower spike. Or, it could be that this particular hybrid really relies on the drop in temperature that some phalaenopsis need to start the blooming process. Many of these types of orchids can be induced to create a spike any time of year, by giving it night time temps (never go below like 55 degrees F.) A drop from your average indoor temp of 10-15 degrees would be what you’re shooting for. You could also try giving it a little more light- lots of people seem to think that is a go-to solution, but I’ve never had that work for my stubborn bloomers.

    Orchids indoors are super unpredictable. They might bloom “off-season,” or not at all, or just keep blooming all year round. I’d give it another year to acclimate before I concluded it wasn’t happy with its care.
