Hello! I’m a newbie so please be gentle 😂. Always been obsessed with orchids. 100% my fav flower. Finally took the plunge and decided to buy one and try to keep it alive and, ideally/hopefully thrive! I bought this as a Cambria Orchid - catatante orange back on the 29th August. It’s 2feet3 inches tall. The place from which I purchased it says it prefers bright direct sunlight, but this app is telling me that it doesn’t. So Who do I believe? 😂 Also, any general care tips I should be aware of?

    That type has been reclassified as an oncidium, and you'll find more care sheet info under that name. This group of oncidiums are usually epiphytes (they cling to trees in the wild), but can also be lithophytes (clings to rocks) or more rarely terrestrials (grows in soil). This makes them pretty adaptable to different kinds of care. With orchids that have thin roots, smaller orchid bark or a mix of bark and sphagnum moss can help prevent the roots from getting too dry. Make sure drainage is very good. These like a lot of light, but diffused/filtered so their leaves don't sunburn (thin leaves are more prone to burns.) They'll be a bright apple green when the leaves are happy. Hybrids in this group do well with indoor temperatures. When watering, use room temperature water and get it directly on the roots. Avoid getting the leaves wet (especially where they fold at the base; that spot can trap water and rot). It's very common for oncidiums to get a leaf spot problem (looks like lots of little dark freckles) and to drop leaf tips (they send any chemicals in the water that they don't like there and sacrifice the leaf tip). Those are harmless to the orchid, and just cosmetic issues. These are a "sympodial" orchid, so they have pseudobulbs (the large bulb shaped things at the base of the leaves) and grow on rhizome roots instead of having a single stem. When you eventually need to repot, you should identify the oldest vs newest pseudobulbs and plant it at the edge of the pot, with the old bulbs against the pot and the new bulbs having plenty of room in the center. Water it before it fully dries out

      Amazing! Thank you! So far I think my biggest hurdle will be whether a vision impaired type 1 diabetic can see if the roots are drying 😭🤣
