There was a small accident and something fell on my orchid. The new baby leaf was broken and the topmost leaf is now loose. I have tied it back together and fingers crossed it survives- has anyone else had a plant come back from something like this?

If a leaf is loose I doubt it will survive — but you have many good healthy roots here so I’d be surprised if this was a total loss 😎☀️

If it damaged the actual crown of the plant, where new leaves grow from, it might be a problem. Just like with a terminal flower spike, if something damages the crown, no new leaves can grow, and ultimately it will be the demise of your orchid. Some will sense this, chemically and hormonally, and they will grow a basel keiki. Just keep caring for your plant well- make sure it isn’t set back additionally from dehydration or any infection. If the crown isn’t damaged, it may produce a new leaf. If not, there’s a chance of a keiki. It may be a waiting game. Good luck! Keep us posted! 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼

I hope at least something lives, this one was a wedding present and my first plant so even one leaf or a keiki would be a win for me

When a flower spike grows from the crown of an orchid, (instead of from the normal spots between the leaves on the sides of the stem,) it’s called a terminal spike. It damages the crown to the extent that no further leaves can grow from the top. So ultimately… as the lower leaves start to drop off over time, you really have nothing left. It’s called terminal because it essentially terminates the growth of your orchid.

I think it should be okay, the loose leaf might die, but assuming that the new baby leaf was snapped, not smashed or crushed in the middle, it should be able to produce new growth
