Does anyone know why my Oncidium got these brown and yellow tip on a couple of leaves? This is my last attempt at growing orchids (lost 4 Phals previously)…and I really want these to flourish. Westward facing window…filtered light…potted in growers soil material mix of small bark and sphagnum moss…no AC directly on these plants…temps maintained around 70…misted on a schedule (every 3 days) Thank you in advance for any advice.

My guess would be the misting. That looks bacterial to me. I would water the media, never leave standing water on the leaves. It’s not unusual to get some leaf tip die-back from oncidiums, but those spots are worrisome.

…should I wipe them with diluted antibiotic?

You can try peroxide (3%) without diluting, or I’ve had really good luck with a 3 in 1 fungicide on my zygopetalum. If however, you see that it is continuing to spread to healthy leaves, or especially the other plants you have potted with this one, I would remove the spotted leaves completely. You can just trim the tips off the ones that seem otherwise healthy. But if the discoloration is not progressing, I’d leave them intact until you get the ongoing issue under control. No use opening more leaves to possible infection.

I agree with Jen’s assessment and advice. I stoped misting my Oncidiums several years ago and have significantly less leaf issues. My only other add to this conversation is test any treatment before applying to the entire plant. Some orchids are more sensitive to certain chemicals than others.
