Hi all. I have a dendrobium hawaiian royal that’s been losing leaves to what I assume from reading is phyllosticta. I’ve cut off leaves with any spots and have been spraying and soaking with physan 20. Based on these pics, does it look like I’m taking the right actions for the right pathogen? TIA!

I cannot say with certainty what you are dealing with is other than it looks bacterial. My experience with treating bacterial infections with Physan 20 has been positive. I sprayed and soaked the plants and after treatment, the issue cleared up. The biggest piece of advice is make sure to blot up any standing water in leave crevices. You don’t want to start up a whole new set of issues. Hopefully Jen or Nepenthmancer can comment. They both give wonderful advice and I like their methodologies l. Good luck.

좋아요 1개I’d agree with Pi’s bacterial assessment. Your photos seem to coincide with the description below- if the issue progressed like this, I’d lean toward this as the culprit. Bacterial Soft & Brown Rot - Pectobacterium (syn. Erwinia) Small black shiny spots appear on the leaves and often are surrounded by yellow halos. If unchecked, the infection will rapidly rot the leaves and roots and spread more slowly into the rhizomes or pseudobulbs. This wet rot may have a foul odor and has a water soaked appearance. Dendrobium. Leaves appear yellow and wet and become black and sunken. You’d probably still use a bacterial treatment/fungicide, but be very cautious of continuing to cross contaminate. Clean surfaces, cutting tools, etc to prevent spreading to healthy leaves and other plants. Going forward, try to keep water from pooling on the leaves. Don’t mist them, and be careful of splashing when you’re watering.
