Hi all! New to planta. Here's my mounted orchid after refreshing with new sphagnum.

Very cool! How often do you need to refresh the moss? Also, what’s your watering process?

This was the first time in over a year! There was about 25% less moss originally. I mostly added more to cut back on having to water as frequently.

I’ve been wanting to do this with a stag horn fern for ages but seeing your orchid has me changing my mind to this! Love it, thanks for sharing.

I have a mounted staghorn too! I'll upload a picture of that eventually. Totally recommend this method. I water my mounted plants maybe once every two weeks by soaking in the tub.

    How did you make this?

First I drilled four screws at the corners of where I wanted the moss mound to be. Next I put a cushion of sphagnum between the board and among the main root ball. After that you can begin layering moss around the roots. When you're satisfied with that, tie fishing line to one of the screws and begin to criss-cross from one screw to another, creating a sort of "invisible" weave over the whole thing. I do that enough until it feels secure and holds the shape I like. To hang it, I put in two fish eye screws in the back and tied a metal wire between them. Hope that helps.
