RIP Orchid I’m quite aware that I have killed it. I moved it to a different window, went on holiday and came back to it dead. I’ve carried on watering it and 1 of the leaves has got better. My question is: 1. Is it beyond saving? Should I throw it out and buy another 2. If it’s possible to save it should I cut off the dead leaves and stalk? Is it possible for it to grow a new stalk?
I’m not an orchid expert, so hopefully someone with more experience than I have will chime in. But, I don’t think it’s completely dead yet. And it is possible to regrow a flower stalk; mine grows a new one each time she flowers. If I were you I would trim off the dead leaves and flower stalk; and check for any dead roots. Put it back in a good window and carry on watering it. Mine grew back approximately 50% of its roots, a new leaf & flowered at the same time. Orchids can be pretty tough! 🌱

좋아요 1개Take it out of the white pot they like their roots exposed to the sun cut the dead leaf off and if the plant looks better from watering continue what you're doing
0개 좋아요No need to take it out of the white pot since it has the plastic one. I'd trim off the stalk and the leaf, but be wary when you water - pouring over that cut could lead to crown rot and then she's done for. Keep your watering consistent and give her lots of love. It may take a while, but she's not too far gone yet!t
2개 좋아요Also, orchids grow new flower stalks every year! You'll get to see her bloom again even if you snip it

좋아요 1개I would also add that you should stop misting the leaves. This plant is already super stressed. Moisture in the crown and in the leaf joints on the plant can accumulate bacterial and fungal infections leading to stem rot. I am cautious of this on my healthiest orchids- I would be extra cautious to avoid any additional issues on an already struggling phalaenopsis.

0개 좋아요I never mist my phals. There’s really no need to ever have moisture accumulating on the leaves.

I would add that although orchids do like sun, they do not like direct sun and that seems to be the issue w the dead leaf? Then maybe overwatering trying to correct it? Place it in bright indirect light, cut off dead parts, water once a week and soak for 30 min once a month. Again, do not place it directly in sun. It will kill it. I would stop misting it until it gets new leaf growth. Do notnsoak leaves. I mist to where it just gets droplets on the leaves. If you have pooling at the crown you are misting too much.
