Hi all. I have a large phal with what I suspect is stem rot. I trimmed the dead roots, cleaned with hydrogen peroxide, applied cinnamon to the blackish areas and repotted in bark and sphagnum making sure the base of the stem is not covered. Is there anything more to do? Is she heading for the big orchidarium in the sky? Any insight appreciated. TIA!
Are the roots that we see in the photos firm or mushy and slimy? If those are dead, you need to cut them away as well. I know that doesn’t leave you with very much, but the chances of them spreading bacterial infection up into the stem are really good if they are already compromised. I don’t see a lot of rot on the stem- this may not have advanced that far yet. Where did you put cinnamon? I know it’s not what you want to hear, but I would highly highly highly recommend cutting your flowers spikes. Flowers drain so very much energy from your plant and right now it needs everything it can get. Cross your fingers and be on the lookout for new roots, breaking through and just hang in there.
3개 좋아요 Hi Jen. The roots are firm but discolored in places. I had put the cinnamon on the rotted areas but avoiding the roots. I took your advice and cut the flower spikes. Fingers crossed.
