I have about 15 orchids. Most of them are phals. About 6 weeks ago, I branched out to a few other varieties. For example, I have the oncidium that smells like coconut when it blooms. And I want the Sharry Baby that smells like chocolate when it blooms. My question is, what other orchids have smells when they bloom and what are those smells? I prefer sweet smells, rather than perfumy, flowery smells. I want to make sure I have them on my wishlist.
The two you mentioned are probably the most popular scented orchids- but there are lots of others. I have a key lime Binosa that smells lemony, (kind of like lemon pledge actually.) Lots of Bellaras and big blousy Cattelyas have big scents, but those DO tend to be flowery. I have a zygopetalum that smells kind of peppery. Really cool. The phal species, the Bellina is supposed to be phenomenal, kind of fruity, but I don’t have one myself.

0 likesMy angraecum didieri has a spicy citrus scent, I wouldn’t call it sweet, but it’s also not really flowery to me. I also have a gomesa croesus that has a vanilla-ish sweet scent, but it is a bit floral. I also have a prosthechea chacaoensis that bloomed, which had a vanilla-ish spicy scent, maybe kind of like root-beer?? Not sure how to describe it. Most of my others have very flowery scents :(
