2nd plant bloom of hardy ground orchid! While i think it's beautiful, I purchased a variety of 3! 9months later and 2 have bloomed and neither were the color as advised they would be and they are the same 😕 be careful ordering from Brecks! 😩
I understand your disappointment in not receiving what you thought you’d be getting in your varieties. Be aware that, in general, unless a grower/nursery advertises their seedlings as CLONES of the hybrid or cross shown, the plant you receive may not look exactly like what is pictured. If a batch of offspring of a cross-bread orchid are produced by seeds and not cloning, they have a multitude of genetic trait possibilities that they may exhibit. Think of it like human parents… if they have many children, they won’t necessarily all look alike. They may take the black hair of their father, and the blue eyes of their mom. They may not. Orchid seedlings, even ‘siblings’, may not have the same color flowers, or amount of blooms, or be vigorous growers.
0 likes Thank you. This is a simple ground orchid and not the usually cattleya or dendrobium so your logic doesn't apply. Brecks actually.sells this particular ground orchid separately than their ground orchid variety. They sent the wrong bulbs. It's very disappointing. When you order a variety of 3, pink purple and white, and end up with 3 light bulb that are none of the variety in the description, it's a bit disheartening. Then when I contact support, they tried to say that's the chance you take and blame me. So I went back to the description, and it specifically states variety and lists the colors. So thank you for your feedback, however it does not pertain in this instance. Though I appreciate you sharing your knowledge.
0 likesInteresting. I read your original post as ‘terrestrial orchid, and went by my knowledge of propagation of other terrestrials I am familiar with, like Paphiopedilum and Phragmipedium orchids. If the ‘simple ground orchid’ you’ve ordered is in the Bletilla family, that probably makes more sense. I’ll have to read more about those. It seems like they grow more in clumps, and are propagated by division. Cool! Love learning new things about orchids.
