I think it has less to do with which is better and more which works better for your growing environment and care style. Some people have great luck with sphagnum. I personally avoid all sphagnum if i can do it. I am heavy handed with water and find sphagnum stays too wet for too long. I also don’t care for the sphagnum they come in from the nursery. It’s too tightly packed for my liking. I lean towards all bark or mostly bark. I soak most of my plants every week or two, depending on media dryness. Most are indoors in A/C under very bright indirect light with some kind of air movement. Trial and error will help you figure out what works best for you. Watch you plant to see how it responds to your care and environment. You can tweak your care and/or setup to address any issues.
