If it is cone shaped it is more than likely a root. If it is mitten shaped (round with a lopsided knob) it is probably a spike.

Maybe, but it looks like the terminal end of a came to me. But that doesnât mean a spike wonât develop from there at some point in the future. Give it a week or two and youâll know for sure. If it does bloom, post pics so we can see đ€ How much light is it getting? Demdrobiums are light hungry (bright but not direct), and blooming reluctance is typically light related in my experience. I keep mine with my cattleyas under growlights that are on for 12 hours a day. Itâs probably similar light level to mid morning in an east window (as a point of reference, Iâm in Texas). The light is intense enough to cause freckling in the cats and mild reddening in some of the densâ leaves. My dendrobiums have bloomed consistently under these conditions. Two have not rested for a couple of years đ Hope this helps.

For a minute, I read âcause freckling in the catsâ and I thought âgosh my cat isnât that light sensitive but she doesnât nap under the grow lights, that doesnât sound healthyâ and then I realized what you meant đ

Sounds like a puuur-fectly reasonable assumption to me đ
1 gillaOkay, thank you for the help! I will make sure to put it near one of the grow lights to allow it to get enough light. Fingers crossed
1 gillaShould 5 hours of light in the morning (east windows, dawn to around 11) plus 6 hours of a grow light enough (itâs not very strong)?

That might work. Give it a try and if it doesnât yield good results, up the light.
