HUGE Gratitude to those who suggested repotting my orchid! As you can see in photo #3, she is SO MUCH HAPPIER than she was a month ago! Thanks so much, orchid friends! My poor girl could use some help! I have had her for 5.5 years (most of it knowing NOTHING about plants) and she’s been incredibly hearty. After this last glorious bloom (which brought flowers that were green & purple instead of white & purple like they had always been before), her leaves which had been plump and shiny look like they have dehydrated even though I haven’t changed the watering schedule. Is it the end? HELP!

    Those roots do look very silver. Have you been fertilizing as well? I would give her a good soak through to see if those bottom roots get more green instead of silver

    When was the last time you repotted?

      When an orchid flowers, it uses way more energy and can benefit from more water. Try upping the frequency of your watering schedule and see if that helps. If not, my guess would be (based on the picture showing the state of the media and roots,) that it’s time for a repot. You may find that only those top silvery roots are viable and the ones in the pot have died off.

    I’ve seen a lot of people completely remove their orchid from soil and put them in leca balls which helps them come back to life since the leca allows as much water as the orchid needs… self watering
