Just got this orchid and I’m sure like many, I aspire to care for it until it reblooms. I’ve had several orchids and never managed to care for them properly - they’ve never rebloomed. So I’ll pin this and read through the threads, as well as any insight and care tips for a newbie. Hoping this time around will be the charm. Thanks lovelies 🌱🌸

Where are you keeping your orchids? This phalaenopsis will want bright indirect sun. Not full sun beating on the leaves, they can and will burn. Do you repot them after the blooms fall? How do the non-reblooming ones act? Do they have health issues or do they just not produce a flower spike for you?

I’ve had them in the bathroom or my dining room - my house doesn’t get much direct sun. But lots of indirect. I haven’t repotted after bloom, no. I have cut back the stick and then I think I’ve overwatered - I can’t figure out the watering to get it right. Either the leaves have yellowed and fallen off or they’ve shriveled and become floppy/lifeless.

When your blooms fall, come on back to the group. We will walk you through repotting. As far as watering, let the orchid lead you. Wait until the medium is dry and the roots are sort of silvery (instead of green,) then you can water again. This might be once a week, or every three days... It depends on the medium it’s in, and your environment. This type of orchid is epiphytic and its roots need air just as much as they need water.

Mine do really well with being mostly forgotten about, I roughly follow the Planta watering and use a spray orchid fertiliser once a week. I’ve had one for three years now and I’ve got it to re bloom twice!
