I have this vanda orchid that I want to “re-pot” she’s out growing the black container she’s in and the wire is too long to hang anywhere in the house. Is it worth doing? Any recommendations on what to do?

    I’d say not worth it considering vandas usually like to hang their roots out, depending on the situation. I don’t have a great photo of mine right now, but I have a similar black “pot” thing and then the roots just have completely spilled out, which I think is the best thing anyways. I would just cut the wire down some if I were you to make that more ideal. This is just my opinion, but it’s what has worked best for me 😁 Pretty vanda by the way! And cute baby 😆

      I agree. In my experience they don’t like their roots messed with. Luckily they not as bad as catts but still. I suggest putting in a larger basket without removing the growers basket. Feed the roots carefully through the slats of the new basket. You can wire to the growers pot instead of the plant to stabilize everything. The vandas I just placed in a basket, grower and all, either didn’t notice the new situation down below or experienced minimal setback. The couple I have removed from the pot survived but were not happy. If you are dead set on removing the growers basket, give it a good long soak and take it slow. Heavy duty snips or scissors help. Most of my Vandas use the wire hanger they came with (not a Joan Crawford friendly setup). I like the rigidness - it helps stabilize the plant, and makes indoor watering much easier (I don’t have to worry about additional dangly bits to mess with). One of my vandas use a chain hanger and is okay but not as convenient. Love Sa’s suggestion to cut down the wires. That gives you free wire to secure the baskets. Double win! Please take my advice with a grain of salt as I have been growing vandas for only a couple of years.
