I need help! My dad gave me this orchid because he didn't know how to take care of it, I don't know anything about orchids. This is what it looks like.

    I highly recommend Miss Orchid Girl on YouTube. She has a super reliable and easy to follow. Orchid care for beginners series, look for her Phalaenopsis videos. That’s what you have here.

    Some easy fixes: switch to orchid bark; the roots need to breathe and dry between waterings. Check for root rot when you do that, and if you find it, trim off diseased and dead roots with a sterilized cutter, then dip the live roots in hydrogen peroxide before replanting it. Orchids like to have the very top roots exposed to air. You can cut/pull off that bottom leaf; it's dead. The next two leaves are yellowing and will probably die back (if you found root rot, go ahead and pull those downwards and off, and treat the stem with hydrogen peroxide. It's also possible that those were just sunburnt.) The top two leaves are reasonably healthy. Because it's stressed, you should trim off the flower spike; it may be disappointing to lose a bloom, but it'll help the plant recover.
