A friend had a bunch of uncared for orchids that I offered to take a try to rehabilitate. Any advice for what to do with this on? I don’t know what these spots are! They were all taken out of severely drenched potting materials and given a good root trim yesterday and I’ve quarantined them from my others. Would love some advice from more experienced orchid growers! Thanks!

    Are the spots raised, pitted, or smooth?

    This one looks like pitting from pest damage- most look old and dry, so, basically scars- the darker spots would be infections from when they were open wounds. I would check it very thoroughly for any critters, and watch those black spots to make sure they aren’t growing or progressing. Are the tiny white dots on the other leaves also tiny indents, or is the leaf smooth to the touch, as if the dots are like freckles?

    Are you worried about these dots? Not certain, but I feel like they are just too uniform to be pest or virus related- I have some phals that have ‘freckles’ but they are more purple in tone… pic below. But they should not be raised or indented. Just sort of one with the leaf.

      Perhaps the plant is a crossbreed, I think I’ve seen green freckled ones before

      I would be very cautious about checking it for pests, and see if any of the black spots progress.

    Thank you all! The spots are pitted, not like freckles. There are also some black spots on the main root stem. I don’t see any sign of critters but will do another thorough exam today!
