I’m trying a new way of potting my ‘Lemon Heart’ Oncidium. The newest bulbs seem to grow vertically or climb up and potting it in traditional round orchid pot buried all the old bulbs and left the new bulbs “floating”, so I’ve repotted the plant on it’s side. I couldn’t find a long and narrow planter at my local big box store but did find a clear refrigerator storage containers. I got nested containers. The inside container has slots and holes; I think it’s supposed to be a colander. The outside container holds the colander. I’ve planted the orchid in the colander and added clay pebbles to the outside container so there’s some airflow and to help me lift out the inside container when it’s time to water. It’s a little different but it’s an experiment. Plus side, I can see the roots and assess the root health. Wish my plant luck 🍀
