Hi Orchid people! I recently bought my first moth Orchid, and I have a bit of a dillema here: I took a look at the pot, and it seems like it's potted in soil, instead of Orchid mix. I ordered the appropriate airy soil mix for orchids and will have it in a few days, but I've heard it's a bad idea to repot an orchid while it's flowering, which mine is, currently. Let me know if I can repot her as soon as I get the soil mix, or if I should wait it out until she drops the flowers. Thank you!

    I would just avoid watering until your bark mix gets there, then reassess. These roots look pretty solid, as long as you let them dry out (go from this bright green to silver) before you water again, they may be ok to hang on for a couple more weeks while you enjoy the blooms. If you feel like the roots are getting mushy or you start noticing mold or a bad smell coming from the medium, it would be better to risk the blooms rather than risk the health of the whole plant, and never having blooms again. If you HAVE to repot- you totally can. Phals are super sturdy. You can be gentle about it and your flowers may be just fine. If it were a Cattleya- WOOF no way.

      Thank you!! I really appreciate the advice:) I'll try to repot after the blooming is done, if I don't see any issues! I'm a little uneasy about the soil, because it looks almost spongy, hopefully there's no death plug under there, the roots look pretty healthy, so that's good:)

    Yes I would leave it while it’s blooming unless the plant starts to decline!

    I’ve never personally repotted a phalaenopsis while it’s in bloom, but I know there’s always a chance the blooms pull through and won’t die if you do.
