Hi Iām kinda new to all this and I was kinda looking for a little advice? I just bought a moth orchid from Menards and Iām not sure if I should repot it and what type of soil is best. Any help would be much appreciated thank you.

Hi! i personally ALWAYS repot my plants when i bring them home. i use regular potting mix for my orchid as well. i threw a bit of like, bark looking chunks and rocks in it to make it a bit more breathable for the roots. (most people go out and buy actual orchid mix though..š§āāļø) also, if it says to water with ice cubes do not listen. orchids are tropical plants and need regular water like the rest of them. š

They have lots of holes for ventilation and drainage. The medium you will want to use will be a bark/sphagnum moss mix. These very young orchids are generally still in the plug that they were grown in as seedlings at the orchid nursery, and in a tightly packed ball of moss on top of that. Long-term, this is not a good idea, because the roots will have limited access to air and will eventually get root rot. Because your roots will have been acclimated to very damp conditions, you may have to water a little more frequently as it adjusts to the new airier media.
