This is my first orchid. I have no idea how to care for it. Any tips are appreciated. Also if someone knows what type of orchid it is, please let me know.

    Sorry to see that the pot broke. For some good advice go to YouTube and watch miss orchid girl. She helped me with the beginners series.

    That’s a phalaenopsis orchid. All phalaenopsis have about the same care plan, especially your average grocery store one.

    I second the recommendation for beginners series with Miss Orchid Girl on You Tube. But here are the basics- indirect bright light- not direct unfiltered sun. Water only when the roots go from their bright green to a silvery gray. If you keep them moist all the time, they will rot and turn mushy. Don’t water from above- letting water pool in the crown or leaf joints can accumulate bacteria and mold and cause crown and stem rot. Water just the bark mix. When you are ready to repot, (generally when the blooms fall from your flower spike,) come back and we will give you lots of repotting advice.
