Hello everyone! My beautiful phaleanopsis has finished blooming and is currently potted in a sphagnum moss mix. I think it's a good time to repot my orchid, but i was wondering if trimming the two tall stems is necessary to promote new flower growth? Also, i am wondering if it is safe to repot her while in winter🤔 i do have grow light that i use for my bonsai, so i was planning on sharing that light with both plants...would that help? Thanks for the advice! 🙂

I personally like to clip the inflorescence back once all the flowers have dropped. You can get try for a second bloom but it seems like next year’s flowers are less numerous without the rest. But it’s not necessary to promote new flower growth. In general I think it’s better to repot when new roots are just beginning to develop. But I have trouble with all sphagnum so I will repot those as soon as possible. Supplemental light never hurts!

If you are letting it rest, cut back to base. If you are trying for second bloom, cut approximately 1/2” above the topmost node that didn’t flower. Miss Orchid Girl on YouTube is a wonderful source of information
