Hey! New to this group. After my phal lost its flowers, I cut back the stem between the nodes. That was maybe 1-2 months ago but I haven’t seen any new growth since then. Wondering if I should fertilize or something, or just keep being patient? My goal is to keep it alive, and flowering again would be ideal. The internet said that if I cut between the nodes, there is a chance it will flower again on the same spike, but I have yet to see anything. Thanks!

A second bloom on an existing inflorescence can take a while. I would just sit tight. If it starts to die back, just prune it back to the base of the plant. I personally like to cut the spike after the bloom finishes. I find the bloom in the following year are fewer in number. Typically Phals bloom one a year and removing the spike allows the plant to gather resources for next year’s bloom show.

Is it too late for me to cut the spike all the way down? Am I committed?

You can cut at any time. Or you can leave it and see what happens. I don’t think it will hurt either way. Orchids are a lot less fussy than their reputation suggests. The important parts are water and light. If you get those right, you are 90% there.

Does it matter that it’s so close to the window?

Is that bad that it’s close to the window? I got it when it had blooms and they lasted a few months right there next to the window.

I think it depends on how much direct sun it gets there.

It’s actually a tinted glass window so maybe that helps 🤷‍♀️

That might help! I was told not to allow it to get too much direct sun. I’ve got mine sitting about 3 feet away from a window, with other plants in between.
