CAN SOMEONE HELP?! When I got this guy he had these wrinkled, leathery, dark leaves and hardly any roots. Since I’ve been caring for him (I repotted in a smaller pot due to the no roots) he’s grown more roots and two new leaves, but they have remained folded?! Also moved into more light for the dark leaf colour but now there’s maybe some yellowing and this dimpled appearance just happened practically overnight! What do I do???

How often do you water him? They need watering (this can very depending on the humidity in your home) every few days or so

Follow up question: how are you watering him and with what kind of water?

I’ve been watering every couple of days! I’ve been watering from the top but letting it soak a bit in the saucer after. Using the tap water in my house that I use for all my orchids & other plants!

I had one that looked like that, I soaked it in water for 24 hours, cut ALOT of roots and then did 24 hours in water 24 hours out until I started seeing progress and then I used plantas watering schedule.

That is pretty substantial pitting, especially if you say it seems to have appeared almost overnight. If they were smaller, I’d suspect pests like spider mites or scale (check plant thoroughly anyway.) Because of the size of the dimples, I’m leaning toward another issue. Could it be that moving it to a new location for more light has decreased the temperature this plant is experiencing? Particularly leaving water on the leaves and then having cold temps can damage the cell structure on tender new leaves. Regardless of reason for pitting, it definitely looks like it needs more water. Give it a good soak, 15 mins should be plenty. Then wait for the roots to dry and go from green to silver. Soak again.

I agree with everyone about it wants water. I am concerned about the pitting. It could be a variety of reasons, ranging from water on leaves and cold temps to viral. Until you have a better idea of the cause I suggest quarantining the plant from the rest of your collection. If it doesn’t spread to other portions of the plant, then it’s probably nothing more than cosmetic. But if it gets worse or spreads, you will need to research the symptoms to figure out the best course of treatment. The American Orchid Society is a good place to start. Good luck.

Thanks so much for the input! Nothing has spread so far, and I think the cold contributed in the window there.
