Hey guys! I have a couple questions for y’all, so my mom has a orchid that has no flower for almost a year. I’m hoping she will get a spike as it gets cold. Oh and is it true that you shouldn’t repot while they are flowering? ( photo is for attention )

True - if you report while its got flowers it will drop them. As long as the plant looks healthy just keep waiting :)

While you wait- consider whether it’s getting enough light- (not strong direct sun, but it does need light,) also- are you fertilizing?

No the plant doesn’t get fertilized

Long term, that could be an issue. There are ORCHID SPECIFIC fertilizers that you can either add to your water when doing regular waterings, (read all the labels to tell you how much or how often for any particular brand) or a slow release pellet type that you can just add to the pot every 6 months or yearly, (again, depending on your orchid and the fertilizer brand.) This was the mistake I made with my first orchids as well.

I would also take a look at the roots to assess their health. Firm and green or silvery are heathy. Papery, mushy, brown or black are dead and dying. Look at the media. Is it allowing water to drain freely through? Does it allow the roots to dry out? If it’s broken down, it can hold onto too much moisture. Generally you want to replace the media every 2 to 3 years, or when it starts to break down.

The media is new orchid bark. It looks good to me
