I rescued this poor thing from the Lowe’s clearance section last night. I took it out of the moss and found that all the roots were dried up and had root rot. I cleaned it, sprayed it with peroxide, and used a pesticide. I repotted it. Hopefully, I can nurse it back to health!

Please excuse the set up. It was late and I didn’t know what I needed until I got home. Will update!

Keep us posted! If you want it to bounce back from the visible dehydration faster, I would recommend cutting the flower spike. It’s sapping energy that the plant could use to start rebuilding its energy for vegetative growth and nice healthy flowers next year.

It was over watered when I got it! It has root rot and the moss was very damp. Orchids are SO hard. I will cut the spike! Thank you! 🤍

They are also very resilient. Look for new roots and we’ll 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼

If it doesn’t have any roots you might consider tenting it. The increased humidity can help it hold onto some of its moisture while it gathers its strength. Be sure to vent it every few days so you don’t get condensation collecting in the crown. You could also add some loose sphagnum at the base of the plant so new roots have a slightly moister environment as they are forming. And I agree with Jen about cutting the spike. Good luck!

You put it in an enclosed environment to help increase the humidity. You can use a clear plastic bag. You’ll want to strategically place stakes (I use old chopsticks) to keep the plastic from touching the plant. Condensation will build up so “burp” the tent periodically. There is a ton of info on it online. I think Miss Orchid Girl goes over it in some of her rehab videos… I think.
