I’m new to orchids. What is happening here? What do I need to do to care for my orchid?

That’s just a root. I potted mine in a pot with holes so the roots have room to breathe. I also used a mixture of regular potting soil and charcoal. Also, if the flowers die eventually, you didn’t do anything wrong, they just have a cycle of falling off. Good luck, and happy planting! 💕✨☺️

I noticed your orchid is in water and bark, are you soaking it? You can grow orchids in just water aswell
0件のいいねI had just watered it and noticed the new roots so snapped a picture right away. Good tip - I didn’t know I could repot in just water.

Ok, be sure to never let it sit in water when it's in bark though. Let it soak for 30-60 minutes then drain it and put it back in its decorative pot. Regarding growing them in water you can but I've never done it myself as I try to stick to the plants natural environment as much as I can, anyway, the roots never look healthy when they are grown in water but the plant themselves look fine so it's up to you.
0件のいいねIf this is a new plant, usually a repot is a good idea when it’s done blooming. I mention it only because you have all these new roots coming out- it would be a good time to get it acclimated to a new set up. If you are interested in more repotting info, this group is a great resource.
