i received this orchid as a gift towards the end of july and my cats have put it through a lot of trauma since then, its been knocked over twice ive had to repot it both times. i’m not very knowledgeable but all the blooms have fallen and im not sure if the roots are okay. is this plant okay and how can i try to help it rebloom or get better.

Well, good news and bad news… the bad news is that those leaves will never ‘heal’ from the damage. However, it can recover and go on to grow new beautiful healthy leaves. Right now it’s suffering from severe stress and dehydration. 1) put it in a place where the cats are less likely to get to it. 2) it’s going to need another repot- the roots are completely above the media, and your plant needs to hydrate more. The leaves are starting to wrinkle and get leathery. If the roots in the pot are mushy or flat and papery, cut them away. If the new greener roots on top won’t fit in the pot, you may need to go up a size, but I have a feeling you just potted it too high last time.

I’d also cut the flower spikes to the base so that the plant can focus all its energy on growing new roots and leaves. Time to save the plant- flowers will only come later after it gets strong again.

i figured that they’d never go back to their original 😓 i kind of picked it up for the sake of the picture but it was nested in there with orchid bark. definitely will check and do necessary pruning. Thank you for the advice!! hopefully the plant can bounce back soon.
