Beauty! This is similar to the one I saw and wanted to purchase! I’m still questioning whether I can grow dendrobium orchids. I went back to get it& just take the leap, but the green one was already gone.

I was the same. I had a terrible time with them when I was a kid. I loved them and they hated me. So naturally I drifted away not wanting to commit any more atrocities. Several years later while traveling for work, I stopped at a convenience store that just happened to be filled with an assortment of orchids. Turned out the shop owner grew them at her home and brought the blooming ones to work. Her dendrobiums were particularly lovely. She noticed me admiring them and asked if I had any. I lamented my inability to grow them. She poo pooed me an a grandmotherly way and said they were easy. She just put them outside and they did their thing. Well when I got home, I got a dendrobium as soon as I could and put that sucker outside ready for success. That didn’t go so well. But I did figure out a lighting setup inside that works beautifully and now they are some of my most consistent bloomers. It took a while to get there but the trip was worth it.

Can I ask where you are? I’m concerned about light and temps. I’m in Chicago. Midwest. Great summers, cold gray winters.

I’m in Texas. Winters are mild, summers are hot. This one is particularly rough. Both are outside of the dendrobium’s tolerance. That’s why I moved to lights.

Got it- very different climates. Still gonna consider them. Thanks so much for the encouragement. Keep showing off your plants, you have some lovely orchids!

Thanks! They are so interesting. I particularly enjoy how the dark burgundy/black lip contrasts with the green petals and sepals. Almost uneathly 😁
