I bought this beautiful fragrant “pansy” orchid in June. It’s labeled Miltonia. But I cant find any online which look exactly like it. Planta also wont identify it correctly. Can anyone confirm if it is a Miltonia and what sort of environment it needs to thrive? It also now has some black spots on leaves and bulb. Is that too much light or mold? Thanks!

    A pansy orchid IS a miltonia type orchid. Planta doesn’t have an extensive list of orchid types and their hybrids. I would recommend orchidspecies dot com to try to find out which you have or going through Google images for flowers that look like yours did. To get more info on how to care for it- I highly recommend miss orchid girl on YouTube. She is vastly knowledgeable and experienced with most orchid types.

      I don’t know a ton about Miltonia, but I would say that the black dots don’t look like sunburn to me. That tends to be in a bigger patch and can look more like a wound to the leaf. Is it growing? Are you noticing it spreading?

      It is not spreading. But the edges are getting dry.

    Unfortunately I don’t know much about miltonia’s. I believe temperature plays a critical part in their care. And they are kinda Goldilocksy in their water and light requirements. I agree with Jen about Miss Orchid Girl (we should be getting commissions with all the recommendations we give 😉). You might also consider the American Orchid Society. They have a miltonia culture sheet.

    Looks like a miltonia. They prefer damper conditions than Phalaenopsis so don’t let them dry out so much. They also enjoy cooler temperatures.
