Because you arenāt showing the pot, I canāt be sure, but generally when you purchase a new orchid, it will be in a plastic pot with no ventilation slits on the sides. When your blooms fall, itās a good time to repot into a plastic clear pot with holes in the sides. Plastic is fine as long as the roots get some air and can dry out between waterings.

Yep, thatās probably going to have a very old peat plug, or tight moss ball in there when you repot. The roots look nice and healthy and should transition well for you to a bark or bark and sphagnum moss mix in a pot with some air flow. Sheās a beaut.

There are a ton of wholes on the bottom of this pot itās in ..
0 gillningarThe important part of this while thread is that the pot has drainage, slits on the side just means more drainage and air flow (which these guys like). Clear is good because then you can monitor the roots and make sure its healthy. Iāve never heard of the plastic being poor for orchids and Iāve only ever had them in plastic. But I could have missed something. As for the plug, often sphagnum can be harder to maintain the correct amount of moisture without overwatering due to the fact that the outer moss may seem dry but the center could still be wet. Personal preference, i remove all sphagum moss and repot with my own medium if orchid bark, charcoal, perlite (you can get good mixes at most nursery). That way it dries out all the way through and I donāt run the risk if my inner roots rotting and me not noticing until too late. But the medium is a preference! Orchids can do well in a few different mediums.
