Do I need to repot?
I am not a fan of the sphagnum phals typically come in as it is too tightly packed. And I find sphagnum stays too wet for too long generally. I also think it is a good idea to repot with new media because the stuff they come in is typically older and is in the process of or already has broken down. Generally speaking, you will want to repot every 2 or 3 years, or when the media has broken down enough that it does not allow the roots to dry out between waterings. With all that being said, you plant looks good. All the roots I can see look to be healthy and plump. Air roots are fine. And the leaves look to be in good shape, firm and not wrinkled. The only item concerning me is the green stuff in the pot. It could be algae or Cyanobacteria. My understanding is algae is fine, Cyanobacteria is not. However, I have not had to deal with this so I suggest you do some research. Ultimately, I think you need to evaluate the health of your plant, the age of the media and if it’s in active growth. Active growth helps the plant produce new roots as some of the existing ones will be damaged in repotting. Good luck!
