My Phalaenopsis orchid was accidentally knocked over and it’s stem with flowers & buds snapped off!! I popped it into a vase of water while I figure out if there is anything that can be done with it. The two flowers lasted several days but then fell off to be followed by the buds. The remaining stem looks quite healthy. Can anything be done with it or is it a lost cause?

You can try to encourage a second flush of blooms by trimming the spike just above the topmost inactive node. It doesn’t always work so don’t get discouraged if you don’t see a second round.

Thanks, so just keep the stem in water, cut it to the node and hope for a second bloom? How long can the stem live in the water vase?

Ooooo, I misunderstood. The spike you have in water is basically a cut flower. It will last a week, maybe. Unfortunately the undeveloped buds probably won’t open. The plant however may have the resources to produce a second round of blooms.
