hi all! i’ve been trying to revive a severely dehydrated orchid and i thought it was doing great after i repotted bc it was growing lots of new bb roots but they all went white and died pretty quickly. i repotted again after i treated the roots and crown with hydrogen peroxide just in case. after that it started growing lots of new bb roots again and i thought i was in the clear but as you can see they seem to be turning white and dying off. the roots that are all white are from after i originally repotted, the ones that are still green but starting to get white are from after the 2nd repot. any idea what’s going on and how i can help? i added some pics from when i first got it so you can see the progress in case thats helpful.

She looks pretty dry. You might try topdressing the pot with sphagnum to help the roots as they develop. I wouldn’t soak it but keep it moist. Once you have reasonable root development, you can remove the topdressing. You might whip out a magnifying glass and see if there are any buggies crawling about. Good luck!

ty! i’m definitely going to try the sphagnum. i know she looks really dry but i’ve been watering her a lot. when i got her from a coworker she was the most dehydrated orchid i’ve ever seen irl or in pics and i spent 2 weeks soaking her in water for 12 hours and then letting her dry out for 12 hours. after that i repotted and have been very on top of watering!altho she’s bounced A LOT i wonder if she will always look a bit dehydrated.

Your orchid looks severe dehydrated. You can tell because the leaves are very wrinkly. That tells me you are waiting too long in between watering and not watering enough. The white/silver roots are aerial and most roots turn light when the plant is thirsty. Once you water they will be green. I recommend submerging the root system for 20 minutes once a week with your medium like bark and chips. That should provide air and moisture to reestablish a steady root growth

misting it might help too!! pretty much every day (between waterings) i like to feel the moss to see if it’s dry and if it is i mist it :) my orchid is doing really well so hopefully this can help!!

I found success with my orchid by completely removing from soil/bark/moss and letting its roots just sit in a glass of water, it can even flower that way. Remove any dead or rotten roots. There are videos on YouTube or TikTok that are helpful
